Andhra Pradesh BJP President Somu Veerraju has announced retirement from politics. He announced that he would not continue in politics after 2024 and has no ambitions whatsoever to become the Chief Minister. “I am only asking to give BJP a chance in 2024,” Somu Veerraju.
Somu Veerraju is the face of the YSR Congress favorable section in BJP. He gained the confidence of the party high command when TDP and BJP are at loggerheads and became the party president. Under his tenure, BJP has become a synonym for making tall claims and doing nothing on the ground.
The party has been registering horrendous results in the by-elections and the local elections. There have been rumors that BJP high command will very soon change the president. At the same time, there is no use in contesting the next elections. And so, Somu Veerraju may have stepped aside himself respectfully.
Somu Veerraju is yet to win an election directly. In 2015, he became an MLC thanks to the alliance with TDP. His term as MLC has ended recently.
