Telangana ranked fifth in per capita income across the country, according to the RBI Handbook of Statistics, 2025. Among India’s larger states, Telangana secured the top position. The ranking reflects the state’s strong economic performance.
The state recorded a per capita income of Rs 3,87,623. Sikkim topped the list with Rs 587743, while Goa stood second with Rs 5,89,953. The Union Territory of Delhi ranked third with Rs 493024.
Chandigarh, another Union Territory in the data, secured the fourth position. Kerala was placed at the bottom with Rs 3,08,338. Karnataka followed Telangana closely, while Tamil Nadu stood at seventh place.
Haryana and Maharashtra ranked eighth and ninth respectively. The rankings included large states, smaller states, and Union Territories. This wider coverage offered a broader view of income distribution across the country.
The data shows that per capita income is not driven by size or visibility alone. Smaller states like Sikkim outperformed Telangana, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. This highlights higher average living standards and economic well-being in smaller states and Union Territories.
