It is well known that New Year eve is that time of the year when Liquor Sales will be zooming. But then, Telangana Government has got a Bad news Tipplers as the government has effected a 10 percent hike in the liquor rates.

The new rates have come into effect from Tuesday night itself. The government had not increased the rates of liquor since 2012 but the hike has not come well for Tipplers. The state is keen to fill its coffers on the New Year’s Eve with this decision.
The demand for the Price Hike is long pending from the manufactures who can not increase the prices without government permission, according to rules. Liquor Income forms the major chunk of the revenues for the state governments across the country. Moreover, Liquor is still not brought under GST and so the states can use this income to fund various welfare schemes.
