Telangana State Polls: Breathalyzer Test Before Voting?

Telangana elections are around 2 weeks from now and we are starting to hear many interesting tidbits regarding the same. Here is one such interesting update regarding the polls here.

The Drunker Welfare Association of Telangana has sent an interesting new proposal to the state Election Commission.

The association has written the EC officer that the voters in Telangana should undergo a mandatory breathalyzer test before polling their votes, in order to curb the influence of alcohol on the voters.

“We are writing to you in a bid to uphold the integrity of the voting process. We urge the Election Commission to enforce certain regulations to make sure the voter is not entirely influenced while casting his vote. Imposing a breathalyzer test makes sure we contain the influence of alcohol. A person under the influence of alcohol should not be allowed to vote” the letter from the Drunker Welfare Association read.

Needless to say, the EC bringing this to effect is nearly impossible as passing such a reformation two weeks before the election is impractical. But it certainly does address an important issue with the current voting trends, particularly in rural areas.
