A key development has taken place in the Tirumala laddoo case. One more person has been arrested. TTD marketing GM Subramanyam has been taken into custody. After his arrest, he was taken to Tirupati’s Ruia Hospital for a check up. With this, the total arrests have reached 10.
The adulteration of ghee used in Tirumala laddoos happened during the YSRCP term. Between 2019 and 2024, 20.01 crore laddoos were made with adulterated ghee. A total of 48.76 crore laddoos were made in that period. Of those, 40% were adulterated with palm oil, palm kernel oil and chemicals.
The TTD Board at that time procured ghee from Uttarakhand’s Bhole Baba dairy, AR dairy in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigal and Vaishnavi dairy in Punabaka in Tirupati district. The Board paid Rs 250 crore to these dairies.
It has been found that 1.16 crore litres of ghee was purchased from them and 68 lakh litres was adulterated. This raised major concerns over quality and safety.
Every day around 4 lakh laddoos are made at Tirumala. Around 12 to 13,000 litres of ghee is used for the preparation. TTD ex chairman YV Subbareddy was questioned at his Hyderabad house by SIT officials. His PA Appanna has been arrested and is under interrogation.
