Top 5 Overweight States in the U.S.West Virginia is the most obese state in the US and it’s followed by Mississippi, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Alabama. The study was based on 31 metrics. The report was released by WalletHub, just in time for November’s National Diabetes Awareness Month.

Michigan also makes it to the list of the top 20 states in the US in 2022 that had obese and overweight people.

It is a known fact that obesity and being overweight have become a cause for concern in the US. This is mostly genetic, and environmental. Most Americans binge on fast food and do a little exercise. Then there is the poor-rich divide which is another factor that aggravates the problem.

Not surprisingly, 7 out of 10 in the age group of 20 are obese and this number has increased dramatically in the past few decades.

More than 42 percent of adults in the US are currently obese, while three-quarters are overweight.

Colorado, Utah, Columbia, Massachusetts, and Hawaii were the least obese. Experts in the US say the problem lies with people being focused on weight. Instead, they need to focus on health, they say.
