One of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s key aspirations for the state’s agricultural sector has been the completion of the Veligonda project. The project has remained a long-standing priority for him.
Chandrababu Naidu arrived at the Veligonda Phase 1 launch event today in traditional Telugu panche attire. His appearance created a notable visual moment at the event.
Shortly afterwards Chandrababu Naidu lifted the feeder canal gates and released 10.7 TMC of Krishna water into Nallamala Sagar. This marked the official launch of the Veligonda project.
The project has been a long-standing dream for Chandrababu Naidu since 1996. Its latest milestone comes nearly three decades after he laid the foundation stone for the project.
The Andhra Pradesh government says that more than ₹2,400 crore has been spent on the Veligonda Project over the last two years. This indicates that a major part of the final execution phase was completed after the 2024 election.
The successful execution of the Veligonda project is another significant achievement for Chandrababu Naidu. His focus will now reportedly shift towards completing the Polavaram project by 2027.
Interestingly Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the Veligonda Project in 1996. Thirty years later the project has reached the execution stage with the first waters being released today.
