4 By-Elections Already: Can Vijay Deliver?

Vijay addressing political gathering

It has been three weeks since the formation of the cinema star Vijay government in Tamil Nadu and things are taking interesting turns around already. The stage is being prepared for by elections in 4 constituencies already.

One constituency is obviously Trichy East, which was vacated by chief minister Vijay himself as he decided to retain in Perambur constituency. The other three seats are Maduranthakam, Dharapuram and Perundurai which are no vacated.

The three vacancies that happened today are due to the fact that the 3 AIDMK MLAs from these constituencies resigned their positions and joined the TVK.

So the election commission will now have to hold by election in all four of these constituencies within the stimulated time period of six months. This is a waste of public resources and money, considering that the initial election was held only a month ago and now the whole process will have to be repeated because these MLAs refined.

In political terms, this is going to be pretty significant challenge to Thalapathy Vijay, as he will have to secure all four of these seats in order to maintain a strong grip in power.

The electoral outcome in these four constituencies can be considered as a referendum from the public based on Vijay’s rule till now. He must be particularly cautious about the same and hope for the best possible result.
