When Thalapathy Vijay became the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, he took many common people with him to great positions. Many common people like Auto drivers, car drivers, unemployed youth became MLAs and MPs under his party leadership.
The good thing here is that Vijay is looking to uphold this dignity and political integrity even after becoming the CM while the easier route is to set them aside and seek political power.
For the last eight weeks, there has been intense speculation about Vijay’s good friend from the film industry and actor Raghava Lawrence contesting from Trichy in the coming by election here. At one point, it was even said that Lawrence could be promoted as the deputy CM if he wins Trichy.
However, there is a break in momentum now as Lawrence has released a public video where he said he is not going to contest Trichy as it is not right for him to grab the seat at the last minute while other hard-working TVK folk are kept waiting.
At the internal level, this must definitely be attributed to chief minister Vijay, who acted very smartly while taking this bold call. It should have been an easy choice to go for a known film actor, and financially settled candidate like Lawrence, but this would have come at the cost of cheating lower ranked leaders who fought for the party.
Vijay took the tough call and decided to go with the common folk rather than the starry culture as he’s likely to go for a hardworking cadreship. This is a brilliant and brave call from the chief minister, and this is the right way to lead a party that was built on the foundation of common folk.
