By Polls: Can CM Vijay Win The Big Fight?

CM Vijay faces Tamil Nadu bypoll test

It has been a little over four months since Thalapathy Vijay took charge as the Chief minister of Tamil Nadu and he is already being put to the test. This is a result of the ongoing by election in Tamil Nadu.

The ongoing by election in a couple of Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu could post a significant question to the public mandate on the Vijay administration thus far.

Bypolls are underway in Maduranthakam and Dharapuram, with turnout at 83% and 78% respectively as of 5 PM.

Incidentally, a polling officer was removed in Dharapuram after an elderly woman alleged she was asked to vote for the TVK’s symbol instead of the DMK’s symbol.

Generally, when there is a significantly high voter turnout, it could be regarded as an indication of the anti incumbency factor. It has to be seen if this would be the case with Tamil Nadu as well now.

However, Vijay is still fresh in administration, and he had been taking several anticorruption measures in Tamil Nadu. It can be assumed that the early days of Vijay as the chief minister could be received positively by the Tamil Nadu public.

We have to wait for October 9 for the announcement of the result, and this will decide the outcome of the Vijay government. If the TVK wins both the seats, Vijay would be delighted with the mandate. Or else it could be a significant setback to the first time chief minister.
