Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, a prominent figure within the YSRCP and a member of the Rajya Sabha, is reportedly preparing to leave the party, marking a significant shift in the political landscape. Known as a close ally of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy since the formation of the YSRCP, Mopidevi has played key roles in the party, particularly in the Guntur and Bapatla districts.

His departure is particularly surprising given his long-standing loyalty to Jagan, even during the latter’s imprisonment. Mopidevi’s dissatisfaction appears to stem from multiple issues, including Jagan’s refusal to allow him or his brother to contest in the 2024 assembly elections. Despite Mopidevi’s repeated requests, Jagan did not reconsider his decision, which led to a deep sense of alienation and frustration for the Rajya Sabha member.

The situation worsened when his views were reportedly disregarded in the finalization of election candidates, and he was sidelined in party affairs. Mopidevi has distanced himself from YSRCP activities following the recent election results, and his move to join the TDP seems imminent.

His willingness to relinquish his Rajya Sabha seat to align with the TDP indicates a significant shift in his political allegiance. Last week, Minister Anagani Satyaprasad reportedly facilitated a meeting between Mopidevi, Beeda, and Chandrababu Naidu in Hyderabad, further solidifying his decision to switch sides.

Mopidevi’s exit from YSRCP, if confirmed, would be a major blow to the party, given his influence and the symbolic nature of his departure as a trusted confidant of Jagan. This development also reflects the broader discontent within YSRCP ranks, as other key leaders are rumored to be considering similar moves.
