The experimental vaccine for Coronavirus, known as ChAdOx1 nCoV-19, developed by the Researchers at Oxford University is one of the front runners in the global race. The single-shot vaccine on monkeys developed antibodies against the virus within 14 days, and all developed protective antibodies within 28 days.
The human trials are already going on and the first signals on whether and how well it works could come as early as July or August. The team developing the vaccine says once available it will be a low-priced, very, very extensively available vaccine as soon as possible. The project has at least seven manufacturing sites around the world.
Those include India’s Serum Institute as well as sites in Europe and China. A million doses of the shot are already being manufactured and will be available by September, even before trials fully prove whether it works. Serum Institute earlier announced that it may price the vaccine at 1000 Rupees per shot and the Government may subsidize it further.
Across the globe, there are 4.53 Million confirmed cases so far resulting in 307K deaths. In India, there are close to 86,000 cases as per the medical bulletin released this morning which resulted in 2,752 fatalities.
