In what can be termed as a major embarrassment for Telangana government, The Union Ministry of Environment and Forest deferred the forest clearance for the 4,000-MW Yadadri thermal power plant at Veerlapalem in Nalgonda district. The Expert Appraisal Committee rapped the government for the casual approach towards preparation of environment impact assessment (EIA) report of the project.

The report for the crucial project is full of plagiarism and copy-paste of information and is clearly prepared without application of mind, the committee felt. The committee also opined that site-specific factors for crucial aspects such as risk assessment and disaster management were totally missing from the report.
Even the specified project details and crucial details and data regarding water withdrawal and availability are missing. The Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhara Rao is extremely disappointed at the careless approach of the officials towards a crucial project. Telangana which is power deficit after the state bifurcation is keen on becoming self-reliant and stop the costly outside purchases. So this approach is not at all acceptable.
