highcourt serious on social media messagesCentral government has told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that messages posted in social networking sites will not be considered as an offence and will be related to freedom of expression. This protects the online users from criticizing politicians, film stars etc on normal tone.

However the Informational and Technology law still allows the police to arrest those who post “annoying, inconvenient and dangerous messages” on social media which are intended to create disturbances in the society or that hurts modest of any person on a personal front.

Supreme Court was brought to its notice that certain authorities are misusing this terms in IT act to harass people who question the government. To which the center has responded that a panel will be set up to suggest ways of protecting freedom of speech. The panel will also look into any misuse of the law by the authorities and stop it.
