Sharmila’s Wedding Venue Choice: A Calculated Move?

Y.S. Sharmila and Yelahanka Palace wedding row

Y.S. Sharmila knows that her relationship with her brother, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, is already strained over the family property dispute. So, choosing Yelahanka Palace in Bengaluru for her daughter Anjali Reddy’s wedding, reportedly scheduled for November 25, raises an obvious question: was this simply a venue choice, or did she anticipate the controversy it would create?

Jagan reportedly resides at the property, even though the property papers were reportedly filed solely in Sharmila’s name. Jagan has raised security and privacy concerns over hosting a large wedding gathering.

Knowing the family dispute, why announce the venue before securing her brother’s agreement?

As a Congress leader inviting political figures from across party lines, Sharmila would have understood that holding the wedding at a disputed family property could put her family in an uncomfortable position and draw considerable media attention. If the venue had not been agreed upon, choosing another location could have prevented the issue from escalating.

Was the controversy entirely foreseeable? Yes. Was it deliberately planned to embarrass Jagan or grab headlines? Remains as a question. But the timing and choice of venue inevitably invite questions about whether the consequences were considered beforehand.

If the venue was known to be contentious, resolving the matter privately before announcing it would have been the more sensible course, if at all Sharmila really needed a peaceful and happy celebration.
