What Is the Film About?

Vikrant (RK Sagar) is a topper of the batch and a dedicated police officer who rises through the ranks very quickly. He is sharp and intelligent and doesn’t believe in gun usage to solve crime or get justice for victims.

However, Vikrant is under investigation for encounter killings. Did he really kill them? What case he is dealing with and how Vikrant delivers justice is the movie’s basic plot.

Performances

RK Sagar essays the principal lead playing a cop. It is a no-nonsense role with minimal expression. Everything needs to be done with intensity and a bit of aggression. It leads to a face with a single expression throughout. It’s not bad, but sometimes one feels there could be more intensity given the circumstances.

Right from the start, Sagar maintains consistency and goes about the proceedings confidently. It is on the surface level, and the one-dimensional characterisation doesn’t help the cause, but it fits well with the overall attempt.

Misha Narang is the female lead. She gets a lot of scope to emote and is good in those parts. She conveys the pain without going overboard.

Dhanya Balakrishnan has a relatively smaller role and is alright is what she gets.

Analysis

Raghav Omkar Sasidhar writes and directs The 100. It is an investigative thriller with a bit of action thrown in.

The movie gets going from the start without wasting any time. The opening intrigues, and it’s immediately followed by a hero who is shown as a competent and no-nonsense guy.

We then have the usual world-building showing the hero’s personal and professional space. The whole thing happens pretty quickly without wasting much time. This quickness to get through and run makes the narrative rushed at times.

The real interest in the movie begins when the investigation related to robbery commences and it’s linked to the main female lead. However, everything happens formulaically and flatly. There is hardly any thriller for a thriller.

The narrative moves from point A to point B clinically, but without any highs or thrills. It makes the narrative look decent, but doesn’t excite one as a viewer. The emotions behind the pre-interval and interval are better and it helps in one looking forward to the second half.

There is a small twist in the tale as soon as the proceedings resume. It is a good tweak, but isn’t explored thrillingly. We are again back to the investigation and hear some key developments, but don’t feel the adrenaline and excitement behind them.

The narrative swiftly moves to the core issue at hand linking the threads. But, once the man is revealed, a sense of sluggishness starts. The cat and mouse game lacks the fizz, and things end on a predictable note.

The 100 isn’t particularly bad, but at the same time, it lacks the excitement factor. It moves like a clock hitting all numbers, such narratives present, minus the high.

Overall, The 100 is a decently, by the numbers, executed story, but lacks the necessary excitement or thrills to make it worthwhile. It makes for a passable home watch at best.

Performances by Others Actors

All the actors have done a decent to good job in the film based on the requirements. Senior actors Anand, Kalyani Natarajan, Lakshmi Gopala Swamy, Giri etc. belong to the category. They do their parts neatly and without any complaint. The rest are decent and fit the roles given to them.

Music and Other Departments?

Harshavardhan Rameshwar’s work is okay. It goes with the flat nature of the proceedings sticking to predictable sounds usually associated with the genre. Nothing in particular stands out, but it isn’t memorable in any way. The cinematography is okay and the editing is sharp. The latter gives a rushed feeling at times. The writing is standard fare for the genre.
