CEC Probes Pre-Election Freebies by Parties

Five States are going to polls later this year. The election dates were announced on Monday. December 3rd is the counting day and it is the day on which we will know whether Telangana and four other States have opted for change or continuity.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, meanwhile, has criticized the tendency of political parties to announce freebies just ahead of elections. He opined that they announce populist schemes just before elections but not when they are in power for five years.

The ECI feels that political parties should be made to spell out their concrete plans regarding the implementation of the freebies they announce.
