Tata Group to Build Large iPhone Plant

The Tata Group is preparing to build one of India’s biggest iPhone assembly plants, in line with Apple Inc.’s aim to grow its manufacturing presence in India. The plant, slated for Hosur in Tamil Nadu, aims to house about 20 assembly lines and hire around 50,000 workers within two years. Expected to start functioning within 12-18 months, neither Apple nor Tata has responded to queries about this.

This move strengthens Apple’s effort to localize its supply chain, boosting its collaboration with Tata. With plans to manufacture over 50 million iPhones yearly in India within 2-3 years, Apple aims to diversify beyond China, fostering partnerships in India, Thailand, and Malaysia.

Benefiting from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s incentives, this plant is anticipated to significantly increase iPhone assembly, aligning with Apple and Tata’s growth strategies.
