Telangana No.1 In Liquor Consumption

telangana takes advantage on andhra pradesh election code on alcohol

Once again, Telangana has topped in alcohol consumption among all South Indian states, surpassing Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu despite its smaller population.

According to the Excise Department’s report submitted to the government, Telangana recorded a per-capita consumption of 9 litres of liquor and 10.7 litres of beer in 2022-23. This consumption is notably higher than Andhra Pradesh (6.04 litres of liquor and 1.86 litres of beer), Tamil Nadu (7.66 litres of liquor and 3.75 litres of beer), and Kerala (5.93 litres of liquor and 2.63 litres of beer).

Telangana not only leads in consumption but also ranks second to Tamil Nadu in terms of earnings from liquor sales in South India. However, amidst this, the newly formed Congress government in Telangana is prioritizing measures to curb alcohol sales and consumption. Reports suggest necessary steps will be taken to address this concern.
