In a shocking security breach, two intruders were detained on Wednesday after entering the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery and activating tear gas canisters. Video footage showed members trying to apprehend the intruders as they moved across desks. Eventually, both Houses were adjourned.
Simultaneously, outside the Parliament building, local police detained a man and a woman, identified as 42-year-old Neelam and 25-year-old Amol Shinde, for protesting with yellow smoke near New Delhi’s Transport Bhavan.
Reportedly, two young men had jumped from the gallery and emitted gas using an object they hurled. MPs intervened and security personnel removed the intruders. The severity of the breach is highlighted especially as it occurred on the anniversary of lives lost in the 2001 Parliament Attack. Identity details about the individuals are yet to be revealed.
