Ahead of the elections, the Congress party pledged to introduce free bus travel for women across Telangana. With their victory and imminent assumption of power tomorrow, the groundwork for this initiative has already commenced.
According to reports, officials from TSRTC (Telangana State Road Transport Corporation) are actively calculating the financial implications of offering free bus services to women across various bus categories. A similar scheme is already operational in Karnataka, prompting TSRTC officials to plan a two-day visit to Bengaluru for further insights into its execution.
The government aims to roll out this plan promptly. If implemented across both Palle Velugu and Express buses, it would require an annual budget of Rs. 2200 crores. Should it be limited to Palle Velugu buses alone, the yearly expenditure would amount to around Rs. 750 crores. The government has committed to covering all losses incurred by TSRTC due to the implementation of this scheme.
