A resident from Himachal Pradesh recently stunned the internet after spending Rs 14 lakh on a VIP registration number for his scooter, which itself cost only around Rs 1 lakh.
Sanjeev Kumar, a hardware trader from Hamirpur, acquired a highly desired number plate, HP21C-0001, through an online auction held by the Himachal Pradesh Transport Department.

In addition to Sanjeev, another bidder from Baddi, Solan district, made an offer of Rs 13.5 lakh but was regrettably outbid.
Sanjeev’s success didn’t just set a record for the most expensive two-wheeler registration but also generated a significant revenue for the government, as the entire amount was deposited to the state treasury.

Addressing the issue, Sanjeev explained, “There’s no price tag on passion. When you want something extraordinary, you don’t look at the cost.”
His son, Dinesh Kumar, also confirmed that it was a purely personal choice, made through an official and transparent online process.

On social media, this purchase has started an entertaining conversation, with many people still unable to wrap their heads around why someone would spend more money on a license plate than the vehicle itself.
One social media user stated he could have purchased a luxury car with that amount, yet all he did was install a license plate on his Activa.
While others rejected the matter as having false priorities, some pointed out that the status and cultural significance of owning something VIP in India influences such decisions.
Extravagant or not, this moment will surely be unforgettable for many.
