15+ Fishermen Caught Abroad

Indian-Fisherman-Srilanka-Navy

The India-Sri Lanka dispute has been ongoing for a long time. Every now and then, we witness innocent people getting caught by the Sri Lankan military. A recent news report again confirms this notion.

Recently, Sri Lankan navy personnel captured 18 fishermen in Thangachimadam who were fishing but are now detained on charges of poaching. Not only were they captured, but their trawler has also been seized. They have been escorted to the Srilankan fisheries inspector.

This is the second incident of fishermen being caught in recent days. Even on Sunday, around 10 people were captured by them.

The debate has been ongoing for decades, and now it is high time that the Indian government takes strict action against this Sri Lankan practice. We have also heard about a few instances of firings on our innocent people by the Sri Lankan military. If we continue doing nothing about it, many more people will get caught as the Palk Strait accounts for a rich fishing area for both countries.

Government officials must take some strict actions to establish a tie or pact between the two countries.
