2.7K For Haircut Desi Barber Robs US Tourist

A man from the US recently paid ₹2,750 for a haircut and beard trim at Toni & Guy in Ahmedabad, sparking online debate. Sharing his receipt, he questioned whether he had been overcharged. The bill included ₹1,694.92 for a skin fade haircut, ₹635.59 for beard trimming, and 18% GST.

Posting on Reddit, he explained, “I understand Toni & Guy is a premium salon, but this seems steep for Ahmedabad standards. I’m visiting for a few months and not familiar with local prices.”

Reactions online were mixed. Some blamed him for not checking rates beforehand, while others defended the price, arguing that high-end salons naturally charge more.

One user wrote, “No matter how rich I become, I’ll always go to my local barber.” Another commented, “It’s partly your fault. Why didn’t you ask about average prices first?”

From a business standpoint, this case underscores the gap between local barbershops and premium salons. Local barbers thrive on affordability and customer loyalty, offering essential services at low costs.

Premium salons, on the other hand, justify their higher charges through luxury branding, trained professionals, high-end products, and superior customer experience. The choice ultimately depends on what customers prioritize. That is cost-efficiency or a premium experience.
