The Delhi Police has recently come under fire from the public due to their statement saying that only Passport or voter ID cards would be used as proof of citizenship for people expected to be illegal immigrants living in the country.
This decision was met with fury by the public, who demanded to know the need for an Aadhar card if it was not going to be proof of one’s citizenship.

Many also pointed out the ease with which voter ID cards can be faked across the nation, making the identification procedure much more difficult than it would have been with Aadhar.
The reactions on social media have been nothing short of sensibility on the part of the public.

One user said, “So Aadhaar isn’t proof of citizenship — just proof enough to tax and track you?”
Another commented, “Only 6% of Indians have their passports made. Also, what about the children who are under 18?”

With the public deciding to go all out on the authorities, it is now up to them to come up with a much more robust way to prove citizenship rather than over-complicating things further.
