Coming Soon: Language Quota Jobs in IT Sector?

Kannada groups demand Bengaluru IT jobs

The IT sector has been one of the biggest contributor for the Indian economy over the years with constant job creation and significant revenue accumulation.

But things have been changing drastically after the arrival of the artificial intelligence revolution, which is resulting in huge job loss and reduced opportunities. And now there is another regional factor that is contributing to further complications within the market.

The Karnataka government recently said the private companies in Bengaluru must start to look at Kannada candidates as potential suitors for the jobs. Chief minister DK Shivakumar, himself said the government will look into creating more opportunities for Kannada youth.

This is now getting substantiated with local Kannada language groups going to IT Park across Bengaluru and demanding jobs for the locals. Particularly their demand is that people who speak Kannada must be prioritised in the IT sector in Bengaluru.

It appears that it might not be long before certain section of the society could be pushing the IT sector companies to provide jobs based on language quota. The fact that the ongoing agitation in Karnataka support of the Kannada speaking community is indicating the same, commented a social media user.

All these years, the IT sector was completely away from any kind of reservations or quota bookings but this is under serious threat with the ongoing movement in Karnataka.
