The legal pressure on YSRCP leaders is mounting, with the Enforcement Directorate summoning former minister Ambati Rambabu in the alleged Andhra Pradesh liquor scam and police registering a case against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy over their conduct during the Pulivendula municipal elections.
The ED has directed Ambati Rambabu to appear before its Hyderabad office on November 4 for questioning in connection with the alleged illegal liquor case. The investigation is examining alleged irregularities in liquor transportation contracts during the previous YSRCP government. Rambabu’s questioning is another development in the wider probe into the alleged liquor scam.
In a separate development, police have registered a case against Jagan and Avinash Reddy over the protest staged outside the Returning Officer’s office in Pulivendula on polling day. Jagan, accompanied by Avinash Reddy and party leaders, staged a sit-in after officials refused to allow him inside the RO’s office. He was demanding repolling, alleging that YSRCP polling agents had been prevented from entering several polling booths.
The case adds another legal complication for the YSRCP leadership. The police action also brings the conduct of political leaders during the election process under scrutiny.
With Ambati facing ED questioning and Jagan and Avinash Reddy facing a police case, the question now is whether these are isolated developments or the beginning of a wider legal storm for the YSRCP leadership.
