In a horrifying incident that unfolded on a busy street in Pune’s Sadashiv Peth area, a man armed with a machete ruthlessly chased down a young woman. The distressing episode was captured on surveillance video and has sent shockwaves through the community.
The assailant, identified as Shantanu Laxman Jadhav, halted the woman’s scooter and nonchalantly brandished the weapon. The footage revealed the woman, identified as 20-year-old Priti Ramchandra, desperately fleeing across the street while the man relentlessly pursued her. Despite her attempts to escape, the man continued his brutal assault, repeatedly striking her.
Fortunately, the locals nearby swiftly reacted to the distressing scene. They bravely intervened by throwing objects at the attacker, attempting to repel him. After a relentless struggle, they managed to overpower him and subsequently handed him over to the authorities.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pune, Sandeep Singh Gill, confirmed the arrest of the assailant. Shantanu Laxman Jadhav now faces charges of attempted murder under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code.
The victim’s mother revealed that the attacker had been harassing her daughter for some time. The family had even lodged a complaint with the attacker’s father, yet the situation escalated to the horrific incident witnessed on the street.
