If you are drunk on New Year Eve, you might get a free ride home. The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) has announced a special initiative to drop drunk revellers safely to their destinations. The service will be available between 11 pm and 1 am.
Around 500 vehicles, including cabs, autos, and EV bikes, have been arranged. The service will operate in Hyderabad, Rachakonda, and Cyberabad regions. For a free drop, revellers must call 8977009804, as stated by TGPWU.
The decision has been welcomed by Hyderabad citizens, especially as Cyberabad police have issued strict rules against drunk driving. Licenses may be seized, and heavy fines could be imposed on those caught drunk and driving. Authorities also stated that public nuisance will not be tolerated on roads.
Police have encouraged revellers to opt for cabs or alternative transport instead of driving themselves. With this gesture, TGPWU is setting a positive precedent and offering vital support to those without personal vehicles.
