Actors Aditya Madhavan and Gouri G. Kishan are on a promotional tour for their upcoming film Others. During a recent press meet, an incident shocked everyone when a YouTuber asked Gouri an inappropriate question about her weight.
The YouTuber directed the question to Aditya, asking how much Gouri weighed since he had to lift her in a scene. The question angered Gouri instantly, who called it “stupid” and demanded an apology on the spot.
She questioned why her weight was being discussed instead of the film’s content. When the YouTuber argued that his question was “interesting” and claimed he had the right to ask it, he went a step further and asked Aditya whether Gouri felt “heavy” a remark that left her furious.
Gouri firmly stated that such questions were irrelevant and amounted to body shaming. She said the question had nothing to do with acting or filmmaking and criticised the YouTuber for calling it journalism.
Later, during the Q&A session, the same person tried to defend himself. Gouri lashed out again, asking why her body was the topic of conversation. She reminded everyone that every woman has a different body type and that her talent should be the focus, not her appearance or weight.
She boldly said she has portrayed strong, meaningful characters in several films and does not need anyone’s validation to feel confident. When the YouTuber dismissed his question as “just for fun,” Gouri made it clear that body shaming is not entertainment.
The crowd was divided some thought she overreacted, while others applauded her courage to speak up against casual sexism disguised as humour.
Online, support for Gouri poured in. Fans praised her for staying calm yet firm during the confrontation. Many criticised the film’s director and co-star for not stepping in to defend her, saying their silence only encouraged such behaviour.
The incident highlights how a section of modern journalism has shifted from meaningful dialogue to chasing viral moments. Women in the film industry are still judged for their looks instead of their craft, and this event shows how deeply such attitudes persist.
Gouri handled the situation with composure and strength. Her response reminded everyone that an actor’s worth lies in talent and dedication not in numbers on a scale.
