Haircuts in Income Tax: Govt’s Bizarre New Rules

Haircuts in Income Tax

Income tax is something that the Indian middle class has always had a bittersweet relationship with. While the process of filing the income tax shall aim to become simpler, it seems that the government has decided to make it much more complicated than it needs to be.

A recent social media post has been going viral, where seemingly ridiculous demands have been put forward by the Income Tax Department.

The post reveals a notice from the department, where it can be seen that the person in question has been asked to file the details of monthly ration expenses in breakup of the quantity and rate.

What’s more bizarre is that the long demand list also asks for a breakup of stuff like haircuts!

This is blowing people’s minds online, seeing such a reputed government agency going to such lengths with their own taxpayers.

One social media user said, “Next thing is income tax will start asking how much oil do you put in your curry. How much butter you add on your toast. This is getting ridiculous.”

Another commented, “They should start asking these questions to Corporations and loan defaulters first! Those who take advantage of the Bankruptcy laws. Salaried employees are easy targets!”

With the burden of Income Tax already being born by very few in India, demands like these only work further to lessen the belief of middle-class people towards their government and the system, pushing us towards becoming a low-trust society.
