Online scams have risen to new heights these days. Every day, we see people falling victim to scams. A recent addition to this is a UPI scam, which was thwarted by the intelligence of a young girl.
A Twitter user shared her story about an attempted scam. She recounted receiving a call where a man claimed, “Beta, your dad gave me your number. I had to send him some money, but since he doesn’t have a G-pay, he told me to send it to you instead.”
After a moment of consideration, she agreed. Subsequently, she received a few texts indicating a payment of 50k received on her phone. However, upon closer inspection, she realized the message was fraudulent and not an actual bank transfer confirmation. She narrowly avoided a potential significant loss.
The girl detailed the entire incident in a series of Twitter threads. You can read it for more details.
Cybercrimes like these have increased in number, especially with the surge in online payments. Therefore, it is advisable to double-check before making payments every time.
