A major bus accident in Saudi Arabia has claimed several lives. A bus collided with a diesel tanker, causing a massive fire that burnt 42 people alive. All passengers on board were from India, and most were from Hyderabad.
The bus was travelling from Mecca to Madina when the accident occurred. Many victims were from Mallepalli and Bazar Ghat. Reports so far confirm that 16 people from Hyderabad have died, and further details are awaited.
The pilgrims had completed their visit to Mecca and were heading to Madina. The accident happened around 1.30 am Indian time on Monday. After the collision, huge flames engulfed the bus while passengers were asleep, leading to a higher death toll.
English media reports state that there were 20 women and 11 children on the bus. Rescue operations are ongoing. It is also reported that one person managed to escape the accident. The deceased have not yet been identified.
