In a strangely shocking incident from Bihar, instead of smugglers, cops have arrested a horse that was caught smuggling liquor across the UP-Bihar border.
A horse was seized in the dark of the night at the banks of the Gandak River and is being detained at Nautan Police Station in Bihar’s West Champaran district after it was caught transporting around 50 liters of smuggled liquor on May 27.

Liquor is banned in Bihar, but that’s not enough to stop the sale. As it turns out, local liquor smugglers from the region have trained horses to memorize the cross-border paths, following which they are loaded with boxes of alcohol and sent off on their mission.
These stallions would then cross the UP border alone at night and sneak into Bihar undetected.

The cops from Nautan Police Station acted on a tip and caught one of the horses with four cartons of premium English liquor.
Official reports suggest a few more horses had crossed the river and escaped, successfully completing their heist.

Meanwhile, some border villages in UP adjacent to Bihar are seeing a spike in horse purchases, raising a lot of eyebrows among the law enforcement officials.
While the horse is in custody, the local smuggler, identified as Akash Yadav, seems to have eloped.
Bihar’s post-prohibition economy is booming as smugglers keep using creative tactics to elude the law, even weaponizing animals along the way.
The detained horse is being kept at the Nautan Police Station, where officers are tasked with feeding it a nutritious mix of grass, chickpeas, and jaggery until higher officials find an experienced horse keeper who can temporarily adopt and care for it.
Bihar’s police always have the most unusual tales of arrests, but this case takes the cake (or premium English liquor).
