The civil service society in India is usually defined by traditions and has a core culture that hasn’t changed much over the period. This story of an Indian civil servant is a huge step towards creating an environment which is more inclusive and accepting. An Indian Revenue Services officer created history by becoming the first serving Indian Civil Services officer to have changed gender.
An officer from the Telangana cadre received permission from the Finance ministry and changed gender from female to male. All the official records will now have his gender changed. The IRS officer joined as an assistant commissioner in 2013 in Chennai.

He was promoted to Deputy Commissioner in 2018 and recently he was serving in Hyderabad. This is the only case in India where a serving civil servant has changed their gender. The constitution guarantees equality of freedom and opportunities to everyone regardless of their gender and sex and hence his request for it was approved.
The Supreme Court has recognised gender identity as personal choice and it ensures that transgender people are ensured life with similar dignity as any other. Upon sex change, they have the legal right to be recognised as the changed gender.
