Jackie Shroff is one such Bollywood actor who has a very different style. His dialogue delivery, walking style, and even the way he talks are nothing less than iconic. He has one of the most intimidating voices in the industry, and that is an important reason why people love to mimic him. At award shows and on other platforms, Jaggu Dada, Amitabh Bachchan, and Anil Kapoor are some artists who are mimicked by many people.
We have seen numerous memes, stickers, and videos with dialogues and slang of Jaggu Dada. But it won’t be the same from now onwards, as something has happened that has led Jackie Shroff to go to the Delhi High Court to stop firms, social media pages, and even AI tools from using his name, voice, or image without his consent. He already has an intellectual right over words like Apna Bhidu, and Bhidu Ka Khopcha.
He filed a complaint saying people on many platforms use his name and mimic him, which many times sounds way too problematic and not funny at all. A recent such incident happened in one of the episodes of Kapil Sharma’s show on Netflix when he welcomed the stars of Heeramandi. Popular comedian Krishna Abhishek mimicked Jackie Shroff’s style and attempted to replicate his “jhaad lagao jhaad lagao” (plant trees) dialogue with a bottle of wine and a creeper immersed in it, which didn’t look funny at all. Moreover, it was disrespectful to Jackie’s initiative of planting trees, which he has been doing for a long time.
Jackie Shroff can often be seen with a small plant in his hand as a symbol of saving the environment, but imitating this on Kapil’s show was more insulting than funny. Hence, Jackie Shroff’s decision to go to court makes sense. And it’s not the first time that someone has put a legal label on personality rights. Actors like Rajnikant, Amitabh Bachchan, and even Anil Kapoor have done it earlier.
