India beat Afghanistan in a thrilling match that went as far as two Super Overs in the third and final T20I in Bengaluru on Wednesday. They won the 3-0 series whitewash, but not before facing a spirited Afghan side that equalled them in every aspect.
However, the show stealer was India captain Rohit Sharma, who broke the record of scoring a fifth T20I century when he remained unbeaten on 121 off 69 balls. Afghanistan also made an admirable fight, with the 50s from Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran and Gulbadin Naib.
The match also saw some excellent fielding from both sides, particularly Virat Kohli’s breathtaking catch and superb save close to the boundary.
The exciting ending also gave rise to a wave of memes on the internet, including one featuring Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary. A number of the memes portrayed Shah as an Emmy-winning author, a mastermind and a Puppeteer while others played a joke upon him that he had planned the match to make people forget the World Cup final that lost against Australia on November 19, 2023.
