A Bengaluru man recently took to social media to express his frustration and dejection regarding his city’s and the country’s poor and dismal state of infrastructure, including the subpar quality of life.
Sharing his plight on Reddit, the man revealed himself and his wife to be working professionals with a household income of Rs.60 Lakhs in Bengaluru, a city that charges the highest road tax in the country.

He said that despite paying 2 lakhs more than what he would have in Delhi, he still has to suffer through subpar infrastructure like potholes, never-ending construction, water logging, and traffic jams.
His exact words were, “Quality of life is just sad. Dust everywhere. Noise. Stress. Road rage is normal. You can’t walk peacefully, you can’t breathe clean air. I don’t feel safe sending my wife out alone after 7pm.”

His words, although brutal, consist of nothing but the truth. India is amongst the highest taxing nations around the globe, yet our public services are in a pitiful state more often than not.
Government schools are in shambles; roads are breaking everywhere, and corruption is rampant, among many other things.

The high taxation doesn’t seem to justify itself when compared to other nations doing the same such as Canada and Germany.
The need for the hour is for the authorities to wake up as soon as they can, take their long-overdue accountability, and get our public sector back on track so that we, as citizens, can feel pride in contributing to the development of our country by paying our due taxes.
