For every tourist and devotee visiting Varanasi, the Kashi Vishwanath Temple is definitely on the top of the checklist. It has become a major tourist spot in the city after the construction of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor. Due to security reasons, there’s usually heavy deployment of police near and inside the temple. The police officers in the temple are now going to have a surprise for the devotees.
The temple officials have said that the policemen present in the complex will have a new uniform. They will be seen wearing dhoti and kurta to create a more devotee-friendly environment. The female police officers will be wearing salwar and kurta.
According to the authorities, devotees usually have to wait for hours in long queues at the temple and the police officers are often needed to control the crowd. To make sure that the devotees don’t feel disrespected, the police officer will be in similar clothes as priests.
This move was first tried in 2018 on an experimental basis. A khaki-free complex is expected to offer better experience to the devotees. The officers will also have to follow a no touch policy from now on.
