AI Robot Takes Over School

In a small village near the Nepal border, a government school in Jajar Chingri, Uttarakhand, has a unique teacher which is a robot named Eco. This school has 52 students and five teachers, but there has been no Math teacher for three years. To solve this, the headmaster, Chandra Sekhar Joshi, brought in Eco, an AI-powered robot.

Eco was made using advanced technology from China. Joshi built the robot at home with help from a friend who is an engineer in China. They talked over WhatsApp to complete the setup. The robot cost Rs 4 lakh, paid through local donations and his friend’s support. Eco teaches in Hindi and English and helps with Math, digital skills, and general knowledge.

Teachers say Eco is a big help in the classroom. Hindi teacher Prakesh Pant said the robot fills the gap of missing staff and makes students more interested in learning. English teacher Geeta Taradi said students now ask more questions and enjoy the lessons.

Sunil Kumar, a Class 5 student, said they ask Eco questions from books, poems, and general topics. Eco gives answers right away and even corrects their mistakes. Even without strong digital facilities, this robot has brought a big change in how children learn.
