QR code scam in Hyderabad auto ride

An auto ride in Hyderabad turned into a nightmare for a 68-year-old man after losing Rs 1.95 lakh to a QR code scam. He had taken an auto from Uppal to Tarnaka on September 17.

When the ride ended, he scanned a QR code to pay the fare. The driver suddenly grabbed his phone and ran away. Soon after, the driver and his two friends used the phone to transfer money through online apps and QR codes.

The main accused, Mohammed Moin Uddin, along with Mohammed Syed Salman and Mohammed Hussain, spent the stolen money at petrol pumps, shops, and gaming sites.

The victim later noticed multiple money transfer alerts and approached the police. The cybercrime team tracked his phone and arrested all three men. Police also seized three mobile phones from them.

Officers warned you to stay alert while using QR codes or mobile apps in public places. Always keep your phone secure during digital payments.
