Sabyasachi recently made the headlines for its 2023 bridal collections. The collection which comes a few days before Diwali struck an off chord with the netizens complaining how the models look as if they were attending a funeral.
Sabyasachi is a favorite when it comes to Bollywood brides and is known for its intricate designs which offer a unique blend of tradition and modernity. Although it is not usual for models to look particularly happy on their catwalks, a recent post from their Instagram looked particularly sad, especially for events as bright as a wedding and Diwali, the festival of lights itself. The post featured 4 brides donning embroidered organza sarees with silk blouses and hand-cut sequins paired with a designer sabyasachi handbag, elegant Indian jewelry and a pair of pink shades that added a refreshing look to the shoot.
The models, however, failed to live up to the occasion and it looked like they had shown up for a funeral and not for a happy event. Netizens were quick to point it out as they took to social media platform “X”, resharing the post and adding “Sabyasachi mourning collection” as the caption. One user commented saying that the post looks as if it was released by Hamas, trying to show the plight of Gaza women under siege.
Fashion enthusiasts across the Internet are questioning the celebrity designer on why he chose such bland fabric for a bridal collection, particularly and complaining about the models’ expressions and how he miserably failed to capture the charm and light of the event. One user went as far as to call the ace a “dukhi aatma” i.e a sad soul for his pessimistic choices. There has been no reply from Sabyasachi yet and we hope that his next project will not leave our faces hanging like this.
