Same-sex Marriage: SC Gives A Shock

Same-Sex Marriage

India has always been sceptical about permitting same-sex marriages. The culture has not yet penetrated in the deeper pockets of the country.

Now, the Supreme Court has passed the judgement on the same.

The five-judge committee bench has ruled the judgement and they’ve refused to give the permission for the same.

DY Chandrachud said the court can’t legalise the aspect of the culture and this puts an end to the 21 pleas that were filed, seeking legalisation of the same-sex marriage in the country.

The court stated that the parliament has to be the deciding body here and the final call has to be taken by the legislative body.

“This court can’t give or set law. It can only interpret the law and pass the judgments. Passing and enforcing new laws is up for the parliament. We can’t permit same-sex at this juncture” the court has stated.
