Accidental death caused by human error is nothing new but who would have thought that something as simple as sleeping in the lower berth of a train can end up being fatal. At least that was the case for Ali Khan C.K who was traveling from Kerala to Agra.
On June 16 in the Ernakulam-Hazrat Nizamuddin Millennium Superfast Express 60 year old Ali Khan was sleeping in lower berth when the upper berth malfunctioned and fell upon him. This accident caused severe neck injuries which ended up being fatal.
Initially he was admitted in a hospital at Ramagundam and later he was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad. Due to his age and the severe injuries on his neck, he died while undergoing treatment in Hyderabad.
The officials reported that the malfunction happened due to improper placement of the chain of the berth by the user who was sleeping on the upper berth. The improper chaining caused the incident and according to officials the seat itself was neither damaged nor it went through any mechanical malfunction. The official spokesperson of the Ministry of Railways clarified the matter on ‘X’.
