Pakistan is using all of its might to generate money for its dwindling economy, even if it means trying innovative ways to extract it from its own citizens.
A little over half a million sim cards have been blocked by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for not filing their income tax. The sim cards will remain blocked until the user files the tax returns. The blockade has to be enforced by 15 May.
The move comes after the agencies found that over 2.4 million taxpayers are missing from the filing list and around 500 thousands of those have not filed for at least three years despite having taxable income.
Pakistan’s economic condition has gone from bad to worse. Prices of food items, daily use and necessities have all gone up. It is already under China’s debt and has failed to get much help from the rest of the world. It did not come as a surprise when the FBR took such a drastic step to increase tax collection, because they truly are at a situation where they could use every penny they get.
