Smoking on Indian trains is strictly prohibited under Section 167 of the Railways Act. Offenders can be fined between Rs. 100 and Rs. 500, and in some cases even jailed. Smoking in a coach also puts passengers at risk and can cause fire hazards.
On Monday, a video went viral showing a woman smoking inside an AC coach of a moving train. The closed windows caused smoke to fill the coach, making it hard for others to breathe. Some passengers recorded her act after she refused to stop.
Reports state the woman got angry when confronted and argued that recording her without permission was wrong. She said, “I don’t smoke with your money,” and used the women card to defend her actions, demanding that others not question her.
The video triggered a heated debate online. Many highlighted that the law applies equally to everyone, regardless of gender. Some users said that if a man had smoked inside the coach, passengers might have reacted more aggressively.
The incident raised concerns about respect for public rules and safety. Many criticised the woman for disregarding both the law and her fellow passengers. Her actions, seen as selfish and careless, sparked strong backlash on social media.
