Anaya Bangar has responded to the criticism surrounding her push to play in the Women’s Big Bash League.
Anaya, daughter of former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar, is hoping to play women’s cricket in Australia and could be eligible for the WBBL from March 2027, provided she continues to meet Cricket Australia’s eligibility requirements.
Her inclusion in Australia’s Community Shield has already led to debate, with reactions coming from both supporters and haters.
Former South Africa cricketer Marizanne Kapp had described Anaya’s WBBL push as absolutely ridiculous.
Anaya has now responded to those comments. She said people who oppose her participation should understand the relevant rules and guidelines before making judgments.
She also pointed out that she has already provided the required information and will have to comply with Cricket Australia’s regulations.
Cricket Australia’s policy requires players competing in the women’s category of elite cricket to maintain a serum testosterone level below 10 nmol/L continuously for at least 12 months.
Anaya has said that she is following the requirements set by Cricket Australia.
She had earlier announced that she would be eligible for elite women’s cricket in Australia from March 2027. Cricket Australia reached its decision after considering the medical information provided by Anaya.
Anaya is yet to play for a local club in Australia and is currently speaking with a few clubs.
Her immediate target is to start playing club cricket and perform well. She believes strong performances at club level could give her an opportunity to be considered for the Women’s Big Bash League.
For now, Anaya is taking things step by step. She has described the process as baby steps after a difficult period in her life.
The next challenge is now on the field. Anaya wants to earn her opportunity through performances. Her first target is club cricket, with the WBBL potentially coming later.
