Rohit Sharma, Virat, Dhoni: Have We Lost All Shame?

Rohit Dhoni Kohli

Cricket in India is not just a sport, it’s a whole religion of its own. We Indians have kind of gotten used to this line being said about our passion for the game.

While we like to turn our sportspersons into literal gods, we are the same people who waste no time smashing them to the ground for even the slightest of mistakes or their own personal decisions.

Even the current holy trinity of Indian cricket – Rohit, Virat and Dhoni, are not exempted from this.

While people troll Rohit Sharma for being fat, Virat gets trolled for retiring too soon. Meanwhile, in what can be best described as a worst case of irony, MS Dhoni finds himself on the receiving end of criticism for not retiring from the game.

If we can’t show basic respect to those who have dedicated their lives to the game, then how can we expect to be called fans at all? If anything, our act proves that we are nothing more than opportunistic trolls, waiting for a slip-up so that we can eat our players alive.

Until this changes, this toxic fan culture will continue to ruin cricket, which seems to have lost its title of being the gentleman’s game a long time ago.
