T20 WC: Sunil Gavaskar Brutal Verdict on SRH Star

Gavaskar on Abhishek Sharma form 1

Abhishek Sharma’s poor form in the T20 World Cup 2026 has become a growing concern for India. After another failure in the Super 8 match against South Africa, Sunil Gavaskar shared a blunt assessment of the young opener.

Abhishek had already registered three ducks earlier in the tournament. Against South Africa, he showed slight improvement but failed to capitalise on his start.

He scored 15 runs off 12 balls before getting out to Marco Jansen. A slower delivery led to a mistimed shot, which went straight to the fielder.

Gavaskar said Abhishek Sharma is not looking confident at the crease. He explained that pressure situations are affecting his decision making and bowlers are not offering him easy scoring opportunities.

He added that South Africa had a clear strategy against Abhishek. The bowlers denied him room and prevented him from playing his natural attacking shots.

Gavaskar also spoke about Kagiso Rabada’s spell. Rabada bowled disciplined lines and did not allow Abhishek to free his arms, which increased the pressure.

The former India captain also criticised India’s overall batting effort. He said the batters failed to read the situation and lost wickets by attempting unnecessary shots.

India were chasing a target of 188 but were bowled out for just 111. With crucial matches ahead, India will need Abhishek Sharma to find form quickly to strengthen their batting line up.
