World Cup or IPL? Indian Legend Blasts Laser Show

Gavaskar laser show reaction

The laser show during the India vs West Indies T20 World Cup match did not impress Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri. Both former Indian legends questioned the need for such entertainment during a serious World Cup encounter.

The incident took place at Eden Gardens during the drinks break after the powerplay. India were chasing 196 when the stadium lights were suddenly dimmed for a laser show. The brief darkness interrupted the flow before play resumed.

Sunil Gavaskar said such interruptions are not ideal for players, especially batters. He explained that when lights go off and return quickly, it becomes difficult for players to readjust their vision. This, according to him, can disturb focus.

He added that a World Cup is not the right stage for such shows. While it may suit IPL league matches, ICC tournaments should prioritise the game itself. His comments reflected concern about maintaining match intensity.

Ravi Shastri echoed similar views during commentary. He said players need to remain mentally prepared throughout the contest. Sudden breaks like this can disrupt rhythm and concentration.

Despite the interruption, India handled the chase calmly. Sanju Samson scored a superb unbeaten 97 and guided the team to 199 for 5 in 19.2 overs. His innings ensured India stayed in control.

West Indies had earlier posted 195 for 4, with Rovman Powell and Jason Holder finishing strongly. However, India secured a five wicket win and advanced to the Semi final, where they will face England.

The laser show has now sparked debate among fans and experts. Many feel such entertainment is unnecessary during high stakes World Cup matches. The discussion continues even as India prepare for the next challenge.
